Fall’s here and it’s back to school time. The reenacted year is 1861 and you can practically see pioneer kids trudging along the path to the Columbia Schoolhouse. Parents and children are invited to this history of education in a one-room classroom as costumed docents demonstrate what it was like to learn in those early days.
Everything is authenticated, including the dunce cap in the corner for those who misbehave. It’s all about readin’…writin’…and ‘rithmetic while school is in session. But afterwards, children are treated to games and homemade ice cream on the schoolhouse grounds.
